"The optical dimension, the way the text is disposed on the page, is extremely important. The white is as important as the black – both when reading aloud and on the page. I would suggest doing both. Training the eye will help train the mind (and the heart) to hear his world sing." (John Irons)

"Not only the stability of form the poems have or the functional mingling of linguistic and stylistic registers, but also the thematic cohesion is, as mentioned, typical of Tritsmans's poetry. The awareness of and lasting fascination with the insignificant, both the common and the elusive, run like an unbroken thread through the poems." (Yves T’Sjoen)

Marc Tritsmans (Antwerp, 1959) is a Belgian poet. Up till now he has published fourteen volumes of poetry. In 2011 he received the Herman de Coninck Award for his poetry collection Study of the shadow. In 2019 his twelfth volume The singing of the world was translated into Afrikaans by Daniel Hugo. From 1994 to 2000 his poems were translated into English by James Brockway and published in numerous British literary magazines including The London Magazine. It was not until 2019 that John Irons started to translate his poems into English again.
