POETRY BOOK SOCIETY IN INDIA

A postcard from PBS Manager Alice Mullen on the British Council International Fellowship in India:

"It's been such an honour to spend the last few weeks in India with the British Council's International Publishing Fellowship touring Bangalore, Jaipur and Delhi. We've learnt so much about Indian publishing and mother-tongue languages from Kannada to Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Marathi. It was a pleasure to speak at Jaipur Lit Festival ("the greatest literary show on earth"!) and champion world poetry in translation. We also visited leading cultural institutes including the Sahitya Akademi dedicated to promoting Indian language literature, Ashoka Centre for Translation, the National Book Trust to learn about their brilliant book bus initiatives bringing books to millions of children across India, met the Director of Bangalore Poetry Festival (definitely one for the bucket list for globe-trotting poetry fans) and lots of incredible poets from Sohini Basak (we live in the newness of small differencesto Meena Kandasamy, Siddarth Dasgupta, Garfield Francisco D’Souza and Mani Rao. Hopefully it's the start of many lasting poetry partnerships!"
