Claire Collison’s Placebo is the real thing: a mellifluous set of poems, drawing the reader along in its flowing brilliance. The fluidity of the body in water, and the fluids the body contains and exudes mirror each other in poems that are sensual and uncompromising. There are intriguing encounters with both others and herself, the poet’s eye ever alert in waiting rooms and clinics, on journeys past and present, and, exultantly, whilst wild swimming. She weaves her subtle way through these encounters, then dives deep, bringing up treasures she polishes and presents in carefully crafted stanzas, full of the mystery, frailty and complexity of inhabiting a human body.
