Jorge Valdes Diaz-Velez was born in Torreon, Mexico, in 1955. He is considered by critics as one of the foremost contemporary poets of Ibero-América. His work is crossed by universal references that are transformed and enriched thanks to the author's voice: the four elements, the coordinates of space and time, nostalgia and hope, remembering and forgetting, music and silence, certainties, losses, distances, love and sensuality of high flying, where breathes the great poetry, original, true, eternal and habitable. As a career diplomat, he has lived in Argentina, Spain, Costa Rica, Cuba, Morocco, USA, Spain and Trinidad and Tobago, continuing the affluent tradition of writers at the Mexican Foreign Service, such as Octavio Paz, Carlos Fuentes, Fernando del Paso, Hugo Gutiérrez Vega and José Gorostiza, amongst others. Valdés Díaz-Vélez has written more than 15 books of poetry published in Mexico, Italy and Spain, and he has been included in numerous anthologies published in Europe, North Africa and Latin America. He has won the following Prices and Awards: in Mexico:“The National Poetry Award Aguascalientes and the Latin American Award Plural”, and in Spain: “The International Poetry Prize Miguel Hernandez-Comunidad Valenciana” and the “Ibero- American Poetry Prize Hermanos Machado”. Part of his work has been translated into English, French, Arabic, Italian, Dutch, Romanian and Portuguese.
