A Shoal of Powan is a first collection by Andrew Geary.  The ‘powan’ of the title – a whitefish found notably in Loch Lomond – is a metaphor in his poem ‘Homing’ for two friends who are far from their origins, one with ‘Shannon freckles’, the other with ‘Ganges skin’.

“He peoples this selection of poems with the vulnerable and tragic, the displaced and dispossessed – entering and understanding his subjects’ emotions and feelings in a profound way … a collection I can thoroughly recommend”

– Patrick Osada, SOUTH Poetry Magazine
