If I Were Erol by Kaan K/Yas Necati
fourteen publishing
The debut pamphlet from drag king and gal-dem gender columnist Kaan K/Yas Necati, "If I Were Erol", looks at the writer's Cypriot/British mixed heritage, and how it intersects with their non-binary gender identity. In these poems, Kaan travels back to Cyprus, playing with cultural norms of language and naming to imagine a new world for themselves. Whether that's through rugs, barbers, or the food that’s sprinkled throughout, these poems are about resolving to heal supposed cultural conflicts and find a new, queer space for the self.
