Three poetry books to read this International Women's Day

Today is International Women’s Day, a global celebration of women, their strengths and achievements and a day to advocate for women’s rights which are still being fought for around the world. To celebrate, we wanted to share with you three recent poetry books by women that we wholeheartedly recommend.

Little Bitch by Ellora Sutton

Those subscribed to our newsletter will have seen Little Bitch featured as book of the week in The Muse! PBS's Meg says: "this showstopping debut collection from PBS Spring 2023 Pamphlet Choice Ellora Sutton brings the same fire and fun, humour and hubris as Antonyms for Burial. Within its pages, Law and Order, Tony Hawk, Hello Kitty, and Susan Sontag meet in a cacophony of language exploring desire and girlhood."

Published 16th April 2026 by Verve Poetry Press; pre-order your copy here, with 25% off for PBS Members.

Unsafe by Karen McCarthy Woolf

PBS's Spring Choice for 2026, trailblazing poet Karen McCarthy Woolf's latest collection is a moving, critical and fiercely intelligent epic weaving together poetry, documentary and images. The book is situated in the midst of a reckoning with the colonial past that has shaped the UK and its ally the US; Unsafe pulls us into the processes of gentrification, police brutality and class division with an immediacy that makes them impossible to ignore. Essential reading!

Tigress with Wings by Rupinder Kaur Waraich

Rupinder Kaur Waraich calls on her Punjabi heritage, myth and folklore in this stunning collection about the transition from girlhood to womanhood. A celebration of feminine strength and creativity, Rachel Long praised it as “tender, sharp, funny and jubilant.”
