PBS X METRO POETRY PRIZE

The Poetry Book Society and Nexus are proud to launch its fifth annual Metro Poetry Prize to give experienced and budding poets the unique opportunity to have their work displayed at Longbenton Metro station. The 2025 competition theme is ‘Tyne and Wear’. The Metro serves people across Tyne and Wear, coastlines and rivers, a rich history, cultural centres, sporting venues and over one million people. We’d love to read your poems about our region. A winner and three runners up will see their poems published as large posters in Longbenton Metro station and the winner gets a free Poetry Book Society Membership.

The competition will be judged by Nexus representatives and the poet and performer, Rowan McCabe. Rowan has lived in the North East his whole life and written a number of collections about the region. He has written for Channel 4, Radio 3’s ‘The Verb’, and been featured in the Guardian and on BBC Breakfast. From 2019-20 Rowan travelled the country as the world’s first Door-to-Door Poet. His collection The Door-to-Door Poet (Eye Books) was a #1 bestseller on Amazon.

The prize deadline is 23.59 on 17th October. One entry per person. Poems must be 20 lines maximum. No age restrictions. Enter your poems via the Nexus form here.
