On Tuesday we launched the PBS Spring Selections, welcoming poets Karen McCarthy Woolf and Jennifer Wong to Newcastle in collaboration with Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts (NCLA).
Karen McCarthy Woolf read from our Spring Choice, Unsafe; a fierce interrogation of colonialism and gentrification in LA and London. (The projected photograph behind the poets was taken by Karen, and is featured alongside other striking urban photos that punctuate the text in Unsafe!)
Jennifer Wong read from our Spring Recommendation, Light Year; a journey into the life of a migrant and mother, with an aptly chosen poem on horses as we celebrated Lunar New Year and entered the Year of the Horse.
Afterwards, we heard Jenny and Karen in conversation with Sinéad Morrissey, Professor of Poetry at Newcastle University, and managed to squeeze in time for some insightful questions from the audience.
Thanks to all who attended; we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! And many thanks to NCLA and INSIGHTS Lectures for helping to bring together this fabulous, thought-provoking, and continent-crossing evening of poetry.
