PAMPHLET CHOICE: ALYCIA PIRMOHAMED

We're delighted to announce that our Summer Pamphlet Choice is Hinge by Alycia Pirmohamed who won second place in our Student Poetry Prize in 2017! We're so excited to be supporting her pamphlet which was selected from a wide range of submissions by our Pamphlet Selectors Nick Makoha and Mary Jean Chan.

This imaginative pamphlet carefully guides the reader on their own distinctive journey to those other-lands created by migration. Alycia Pirmohamed’s poetry, often situated in the surreal, uses the metaphor of landscape and the natural world to reflect on wider themes of belonging, cultural dissonance, and homeland. There is a quiet urgency in these poems, engaging with the experience of both the loss, and the discovery of, language and place.

Alycia Pirmohamed is the author of the pamphlet Faces That Fled the Wind (selected by Camille Rankine for the 2018 BOAAT Press Chapbook Prize). Her awards include the PBS Student Poetry Prize 2017, Gulf Coast Poetry Prize, the CBC Poetry Prize, the Sawti Poetry Prize in English, the 92Y Discovery Poetry Contest, and the Ploughshares’ Emerging Writer’s Contest in Poetry. Her work has appeared in The Paris Review DailyGuernica Magazine and Poetry London Magazine. Alycia received her MFA from the University of Oregon, and she is currently a PhD student at the University of Edinburgh.

Hinge is available to pre-order here.
