Join us at the NCLA & PBS Spring Showcase 7pm 28th April, to hear from the Spring Choice poet Emily Berry and Spring Recommended poet Warsan Shire reading from their latest collections and in discussion with NCLA Research Associate Theresa Munoz. The event will be introduced by PBS Manager, Alice Mullen.
Emily Berry is the author of three poetry books: Dear Boy (2013), Stranger, Baby (2017) and Unexhausted Time (2022), the PBS Spring Choice. She writes sleepcasts (bedtime stories) for the meditation app Headspace, and was a co-writer of The Breakfast Bible (2013). She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and editor of The Poetry Review.
Warsan Shire is a Somali-British writer and poet born in Nairobi and raised in London. She has written two chapbooks, Teaching My Mother How To Give Birth and Her Blue Body. She was awarded the inaugural Brunel International African Poetry Prize and served as the first Young Poet Laureate of London. Warsan wrote the poetry for the Peabody Award-winning visual album Lemonade and Disney film Black Is King in collaboration with Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. Bless the Daughter Raised by a Voice in Her Head is her first full collection.
