Kate Clanchy has been awarded an MBE in recognition of her work as a Writer in Residence at Oxford Spires Academy. Clanchy has been a teacher in schools for nearly 30 years, and her work at Oxford Spires, where over 30 languages are spoken by its students, has helped to produce a collection of the students' poetry entitled England: Poems from a School.
Clanchy expressed her gratitude for the award on twitter:
I am just very pleased to be awarded an MBE for Services to Literature. I feel recognised, warmed, seen - all the things teachers and writers so often don’t. I’m sure it will help me pass on warmth and recognition to my students, and I am very grateful.
