Happy World Poetry Day! We'll be sharing some of our favourite poems from across the world throughout the day on social media and we'd love to hear your favourites too @poetrybooksoc!
World Poetry Day was founded by Unesco in 1999 on March 21, to celebrate 'the unique ability of poetry to capture the creative spirit of the human mind (and) reaffirm our common humanity'.
PBS Membership gives you access to a world of poetry! Our recent recommendations have celebrated a wide range of poets from across the world, including Vietnamese-American Ocean Vuong to Canadian poet Anne Michaels and Iranian-American Kaveh Akbar.
Why not celebrate #WorldPoetryDay with PBS Translation Membership and get a whole world of poetry in translation delivered to your door each quarter? Our PBS Selector Hungarian poet George Szirtes selects the PBS Translation Choice each quarter which is delivered to all Translation members with our PBS Bulletin magazine every quarter. Recent Translation Choices have crossed the globe with Romanian poet Ana Blandiana, Albanian Luljeta Lleshanaku, French poet Henri Michaux and Chinese exile Yang Lian. PBS Members also get 25% off all book orders via our website so click on the links to find out more.
We're also hosting the Northern Poetry Symposium on poetry in translation, exiled voices and world poetry on the 3rd May at Sage Gateshead, Newcastle. Join us to cross the globe with Nick Makoha, Karen McCarthy Woolf, Carolyn Forche, Karen Leeder, Evelyn Schlag, Jen Calleja and many more.
