HAPPY WORLD BOOK DAY

World Book Day is a registered charity on a mission to give every child and young person a book of their own. It’s also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

This is the 23rd year there’s been a World Book Day, and on 5th March 2020, children of all ages will come together to appreciate reading. The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.

We'd love to see more children reading poetry too so we've curated this collection of  children's poetry books to inspire and delight the next generation. Why not give your child or grandchild a beautiful poetry book they can treasure forever, this World Book Day! Here are three of our favourites to get you started:

I AM THE SEED THAT GREW THE TREE

I Am the Seed That Grew the Tree, named after the first line of Judith Nicholls' poem 'Windsong', is a lavishly illustrated collection of 366 nature poems for children - one for every day of the year, including leap years. Filled with familiar favourites and new discoveries, written by a wide variety of poets. Created in collaboration with the National Trust.

A POEM FOR EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR

A Poem For Every Day of the Year is a magnificent collection of 366 poems compiled by Allie Esiri, one to share on every day of the year with your children or grandchildren. Reflecting the changing seasons and linking to events on key dates – funny for April Fool's Day, festive for Christmas – these poems are thoughtful, inspiring, humbling, informative, quiet, loud, small, epic, peaceful, energetic, upbeat, motivating, and empowering!

POEMS TO LIVE YOUR LIFE BY

In Poems to Live Your Life By, Chris Riddell has selected his all time  favourite classic and modern poems. This gorgeously illustrated collection includes forty-six poems and is divided into sections covering: musings, youth, family, love, imaginings, nature, war and endings. Chris Riddell brings them to life with his exquisite, intricate artwork in this beautiful anthology.
