Our book of the week is our Summer Recommendation: Against Falling by Linda Anderson (Pavilion Poetry).
"When I began this collection, I was thinking about the notion of the ‘unfinished’ in its many different forms and meanings. Completing poems has always felt difficult, even risky, to me because it closes off the poem’s potential and the possibilities inherent in the process of writing."
— Linda Anderson, PBS Summer Bulletin 2026
Linda Anderson's second collection explores time and ageing, the natural world, and the fragility of both the body and the planet. The uncertainty of memory hovers within many of these poems, in dialogue with this theme of 'the unfinished'. The collection is punctuated with excerpts from the poet's notebooks, forming surprising connections, and becoming, as Anderson puts it "the shadow text behind the poems".
