POETRY BOOK SOCIETY SELECTIONS

The best new books each quarter
Four times a year, the PBS' panel of Selectors chooses between eight and ten of the best new books and pamphlets according to five categories. These are the books that we feature fully in each issue of the Bulletin magazine, with the Selectors' comments and contributions from the choice and Recommendation poets.

In addition, the Bulletin includes descriptions and jacket photos of between 12 and 20 additional titles ('Other New Books') submitted during that quarter but not chosen by the Selectors. We also feature other poetry titles of topical interest, Poetry Archive CDs and SoundBlast Performance poets' CDs.

Finally, the Bulletin has two pages of Book Listings. The PBS invites the publishers of any new books and pamphlets published in the U.K. to submit their titles to our Book Listings, which will be included, space permitting.

Titles from hundreds of publishers

There are hundreds of poetry publishers in the UK. All of them - from the smallest independent to the largest commercial organisation - are invited to submit their new books to the PBS' panel of respected poets. We do not accept submissions directly from writers and self-published books are not eligible for selection.

Chosen by experts

The current Selectors for the Choice, Recommended, and Special Commendation books are Paul Farley and Eva Salzman. The current Translation Selector is Ruth Fainlight. Helen Ivory and Jacob Sam-La Rose are the current Pamphlet Selectors.

The list of previous PBS selections goes back to the 1950s, and includes work by Simon Armitage, Carol Ann Duffy, Seamus Heaney, Ted Hughes, Philip Larkin, Paul Muldoon, Sylvia Plath, Derek Walcott and many others.
