The Poetry Book Society runs a number of prizes and projects each year:

  • The T S Eliot Prize for Poetry, awarded by the PBS to the best new collection of poetry published each year, is the largest and most prestigious award of its kind in the UK and has been described by the Irish Independent as the ‘world's top poetry award'.

  • T S Eliot Prize Reading Groups encourages established or new reading groups to consider the poetry collections shortlisted for the annual T S Eliot Prize.

  • The Children's Poetry Bookshelf was a poetry book club for young poetry lovers aged 7-11, but has sadly had to close after 12 years due to a lack of funding and support. The website still exists but we are no longer taking on new members.

  • The Old Possum's Children's Poetry Competition is an annual competition for 7-11 year-olds with an international section in partnership with the British Council. This competition has run every year since 2006 but, due to a lack of funding, we are unfortunately not in a position to run the competition in 2011.
