2011 sees the first year of Sounds New Poetry, an international poetry festival formed in association with the Sounds New contemporary music festival.
Taking place annually in Canterbury, Sounds New Poetry will invite leading poets to collaborate with prominent composers and musicians, and will showcase the best in experimental writing. Readings, performances and talks will explore the intersections between words and music and will introduce audiences to exciting new work. Poets featured this year will include Peter Gizzi, Richard Price, Catherine Smith and Matthew Welton, who will work with and alongside Arvo Pärt, Altera Veritas, The Amsterdam Cello8ctet, and The-Quartet, among other leading composers and performers.

Sounds New Poetry is jointly organised by members of the Centre for Modern Poetry and the Centre for Creative Writing in the School of English at the University of Kent.
