U A Fanthorpe

Some numbers are famous for being dangerous:
Thirteen, for a dozen different reasons; forty-five
For Jacobites; twenty-nine (the Depression);
Thirty-nine, for most of Europe.
Oi! Enough of this!

There is one vintage lucky number:
Half-a-century, the guarantee of getting there,
When the cricketer lifts his bat at the tribute.
Fifty-fifty, an equal sharing, no one condescending,
or being humble.

Fifty. Too old to be taken in, spry enough for life
after the handshake.
Fifty pages read; so you're grabbed by the book.
Fifty, the golden ring of loving a lifetime.
Fifty, the Perfectly Brilliant Selectors -

Congratulations! And good luck for your next Jubilee.
