Guidelines governing the selection of Children's Poetry Bookshelf awards.

Procedure

Submissions are invited for the following Children's Poetry Bookshelf categories - Single / joint author collections and Anthologies, suitable for 7-11 year olds.

 

Eligibility
a) Manuscripts may be submitted in pageproof, typescript or photocopy form. Three copies of each submission, together with a completed submissions form, must be received at the PBS office on or before the date announced in the publicised timetables.

b) There is no limit to the number of books submitted providing they fall within the guidelines stated herein.

c) The publication date of each title submitted must fall betweeen the relevant dates - Spring Term (January - April), Summer Term (May - August) or Autumn Term (September - December).

d) Each submission must be a new book of poems in English, suitable for children aged 7 to 11, first published in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland; this includes simultaneous publication (within 8 months) in other countries.

e) A posthumous collection is eligible for consideration only if published within 6 months of the poet's death. Single author collections, joint author collections and anthologies may be submitted. Two single or joint author collections and one anthology OR one single or joint author collections and one anthology will be selected each term.

f) Books submitted should have a list retail price of not greater than £10, except by prior agreement.

g) Please contact the PBS for details of trading arrangements.

h) Books are submitted on the understanding that copies will be available for despatch to subscribers during the relevant months.

i) Books are submitted on the understanding that, should they be selected, up to five poems in any one book may be reproduced in photocopiable form in the scheme support material.

j) Any publication to which the poet/s has/have made a financial contribution, whether for production, distribution or marketing costs, is not eligible for any category.


Special Offers

a) From time to time the PBS will make special offers on books which are judged to be of particular interest to members. This category is intended for titles which are not selected but are considered to be of literary significance.

b) There is no limit determining the publication price of a specially offered book.
